The Couple and Their Dogs

There is a young couple who I see all the time in the homeless community.  They have a couple of dogs and they visit the “church”.  I’m told they don’t use drugs or abuse alcohol.  I believe they sleep on the street.

Why do they do it?  Maybe they don’t want to slave away at menial jobs for 40 years with no retirement, no social security check at the end of it. They are young and healthy.

The system is broken.  Fix the system and you’ll fix the homelessness problem.

About Maureen, Living in a Van

I'm a free-sleeper living in a van in the prettiest part of the world. I do this partly due to financial circumstances and partly because I love a good adventure.

Dogs! I bet that would help your security at night. I don’t think you’re afraid of the dark anymore though. I wonder what they feed them. Is that a common thing – to see homeless men and women pairing up?

Dogs are too messy to keep in the van! It is somewhat common for homeless people to connect romantically. There aren’t many women in the visible homeless community in my area so they have their pick! 🙂 A woman on the street should probably have a husband to protect her.
