Simply-living Bazillionaire

I heard about this guy a few years ago (before I started free-sleeping in my van) and admired him.

I am going by mostly from memory but the basic back story is, Burt Shavitz (who changed his name from Ingram Berg to the more Jewish sounding Burt Shavitz) had bees and he made some products from the honey on a small scale.  A woman with business sense (love interest? business partner?) came along and turned the products into a billion dollar company then…some dirty dealing might have happened and he was cheated out of millions and lost control of his company.  What impressed me the most is that apparently, through it all, he lived in a converted chicken coop.

I just watched a trailer for a movie that has been made about him and I love how he says that “A good day is when no one shows up and you don’t have to go anywhere.”  Classic.  (Although personally, I prefer a little…just a smidge more contact with humans than Burt)

Living like Burt seems to me the best of both worlds.  Living simply is freedom to me but because he has money and is known, he also has the ability to help others and perhaps influence the world in a good way.

Hopefully, this whole story isn’t some sort of hype but either way, there ARE people who love simply…all over the world, and by choice.

Oh another great quote;

You can rent somebody, but you can’t buy them.

About Maureen, Living in a Van

I'm a free-sleeper living in a van in the prettiest part of the world. I do this partly due to financial circumstances and partly because I love a good adventure.

    You can’t buy loyalty. Not for long.

    Looks like Burtie lives modestly. He probably likes just working on his farm and staying away from people’s trouble.
