Shower Curtain Rod

I just went ahead and bought a shower curtain rod today at Big Lots….which I still think of as Pick and Save (The old name for the store-Pick and Save was SUCH a better name!).  I had already checked a couple of my favorite second hand stores for one and they didn’t have any.  Since I don’t want to wait forever to implement my plan, I just went ahead and paid 7 dollars for a new one.

The plan is to put it up in my storage unit and hang clothes from hangers on it.  I have a lot of clothes and my van is starting to look pretty bad with stuff hung in the windows and falling down a lot, as well as over the back of my middle bench seat…and also falling down a lot.  Jus clothes everywhere.  I’m still not sure anyone would guess I’m sleeping in there.  I have good excuses for having clothes in there.  One is, “I just got back from the laundry mat”.  Another is, “I don’t have much closet space where I live, so I use the van for extra storage”.  The thing is though, I don’t like having a lot of clutter around me.  It makes me feel confused when things aren’t organized.  Like Flylady says, “You can’t organize clutter”.  So I’m just going to hide it.  Neatly.  In my storage unit.

I have considered putting some kind of rod up in the van but I don’t really know how to do it.  I would have to drill something into the sides of the van.  OR I could use some kind of standalone thingamabobit but I can just picture it falling down all the time.  Either way, I would have to look at these clothes all the time.  Ugh.  It’s enough that I have a boatload of blankets on the BACK bench seat.

My storage unit is 5 feet across so hopefully this rod being 6 feet will still work.  It’s spring loaded so it should be able to get smaller right?  I’m not going to test it out today because I’m kind of tired and it’s cold out and I don’t feel like doing anything.  I’m glad I can even write anything to be honest as I’m not feeling super good.  Hope hope hope I’m not coming down with something!  I’m afraid to even say or type that phrase!

Speaking of excuses, I think I’ve finally thought of a good excuse if anyone at the gym asks me why I often only take a shower at the gym and don’t work out.  (I love working out but not at the gym)  If anyone asks I’m going to tell him or her that I share a bathroom with my roommate and because our schedules are so similar we often want to shower at the same time so it’s just easier for me to come to the gym on my way to work sometimes.  How’s that?  Believable?  I’m not a very good liar as evidenced by the fact that it has taken me two whole months to think of that excuse!  Silly huh?

Here’s Flylady’s site if you are curious about her.  If you are a homemaker, FlyLady will help you get organized and get things done.  FlyLady  (ooo look, a hyperlink!)

(Course, you could be like me and just chuck the whole house/apartment/condo thing, but I suspect most of you will want to stick it out a while longer!)

Is this my longest post yet?  Almost 6  hundred words!  Yikes!

Oh Gosh, why is the above line purple?  Blogging is humbling some days….

Why not go to a garage sale? I had my hit list of garage sales to go to this weekend and bumped into this guy online listed under “garage sale” on craiglist. I called him and the guy was selling items out of unpaid storage units and property he rents. It was the best find ever! He took me to over 5 different units to pick from. He literally GAVE …yes for FREE me stuff like curtain, cooking utensils & small appliances, because those types of items he can’t sell. I walked out if over $300 worth of stuff for $65. I even realized he put some extra stuff bags he gave me once I got home.

I’ve been a yard-sale gal from way back but they are hit or miss and I just wanted to get this clothing problem solved ASAP. Turns out the shower curtain rod isn’t going to work though. More later…
