This is one reason I don’t park my van in parking lots to sleep at nite.  I believe it makes you too visible…and therefore a target.  Thoughts?

“a homeless man living in his Jeep reported that he was confronted by three men shortly before 9 p.m. in the Best Buy parking lot, 9630 S.E. 82nd Ave. He said the men threatened him, took a locked metal box from him, then drove off. The robbery victim was not hurt. ”

About Maureen, Living in a Van

I'm a free-sleeper living in a van in the prettiest part of the world. I do this partly due to financial circumstances and partly because I love a good adventure.

I dunno … maybe that was a rough neighborhood? Maybe he was alone in the parking lot?

I think I’d feel better parked on the edge of a neighborhood. Not in an isolated place (like in your next posting) but with houses around. Advantage: neighbors aren’t likely to tolerate prowlers and strangers. Disadvantage: neighbors aren’t likely to tolerate prowlers and strangers.

hehe yes, a double edged sword! Maybe the guy had stolen the metal box and they other guys were just getting it back. 🙂

Jeeps kind of stands out, where was the metal box, outside in luggage rack? Vans are less conspicuous, so many of them.
