Laughter and Resources

Yesterday was emotional for me.  I went to two “soup kitchens”.  The first one I’m used to since I’ve been there a handful of times now.  The second one that I went to in the evening was different.  It’s less orderly and it seemed to me there were crazier people there.  Maybe I just imagined it but I felt surrounded by crazies.

I sat with a girl I know and a friend of hers.  They’re okay, as far as I can tell.  The guy who sat next to me when we were eating was loud and kept repeating himself.  I sort of joked with him about him repeating himself and we laughed a little.  The girls and I laughed a lot.  I think if I’m going to spend too many days at places like this, I’m going to have to learn to laugh at the situation.  It seems mean to laugh at the crazy stuff crazy people say but you have to laugh if you don’t want to get depressed.

One joke…(perhaps you had to be there) is we were talking about how there are bike thieves around (they even know who one of them is) and I joked that this should be the sermon for the evening; BE GOOD AND KEEP YOUR EYE ON YOUR BIKE!

Ya, I’m pretty sure you had to be there.

Another funny (yes, I’m going to try again) was B was telling us about a guy who was giving out vouchers to a hotel.  B gave  her voucher to guy with a bad leg and she felt really good about her good deed.  Well it turns out everyone walked up and down the street looking for this hotel and it didn’t exist!  Well, actually, it existed but only in the mind of the guy giving out the vouchers!

Anyway, I learned a LOT yesterday hanging out with B.  I learned about more food places and more shower places.  I can get a shower 3 times a week for free.  Can you believe this?  I can also do one load of laundry for free.

I can’t believe people are so generous in this town.  I told you folks this was a good town!  I feel like God guided me here.  I am supposed to experience this.  I don’t know why.  But I am very grateful for His guidance and provision.

Great! I think you’ll find that some of the crazy ones know where the food kitchens are and such. In fact, I might guess that the crazier, the more likely they know where to get free help.
