Homeless Guys

I was mentioning in this post that homeless people know how to find other homeless people.  http://livinginmyvan.com/foundation/

I believe I’ve spoken with two homeless people since I’ve been living in my van.  The first guy I approached at a gas station where he was digging in the trash for bottles to recycle.  He looked clear-eyed and fairly clean so I gave him a bottle I had in my car and engaged him in conversation.  If his story is to be believed, he’s basically like me.  He likes the independence of van living (although his van is stuck now, needing repair).  He was nice.  I took his number but I haven’t called him.  I don’t know if I will.  I asked him where the homeless people in our area hangout and he said he had no idea…he tries to stay away from them.  I can relate.  I’m sure there are lots of nice homeless people but I’m going to take my time and lots of care in meeting them.  I’d like to help people if I can, even to offer a bit of friendship but I can’t afford to be dragged into anybody’s problems.  I have to keep some distance.  By the way, I didn’t tell this guy that I’m living in my van.

The 2nd guy was at the library.  I attribute it to my not having makeup on!  (Won’t let THAT happen again!)  I must have looked homeless because he tried to talk to me twice…and I have never had a homeless person try to talk to me before.  I was nice to him, of course but I felt wary of him for some reason.  Perhaps God brought him to me…or maybe he’s not even homeless, who knows but I just didn’t know what to say to him.  He had that homeless way about him though…there are certain things that give people away…I hope I don’t start giving myself away soon!  Anyway, I have a feeling I’ll see him again so if God is sending him, I hope he will let me know what to say or do!

I also “know” a woman living in her van around 20 miles from me.  She is a friend of a friend and I’ve spoken with her a couple of times.  I hate to say it (and I have told my friend this) but this gal sounds like she’s on drugs.  I could be wrong but the way she rambles reminds me of an old acquaintance of mine that got hooked on something or other.

Ok this was a long post so I’d better stop before I get BORING!!!

About Maureen, Living in a Van

I'm a free-sleeper living in a van in the prettiest part of the world. I do this partly due to financial circumstances and partly because I love a good adventure.

God doesn’t send mixed messages. Your gut and discernment says in a soft voice ” be very careful of him.” But your mind, which is not of God but your human reasoning, says in a loud voice, “He okay just give him a chance sometime.”

Go with that small… still… voice; it’s always right
