Ooooo found another great spot to park the van and sleep last nite. I came back late from a political type meeting. I think it was around 1230. I don’t usually stay out so late and I was feeling a little nervous about finding a spot, for some reason. I have a (perhaps unreasonable) fear that I will run out of new places to park. As I mentioned yesterday, I only want to stay in each place once a month, so I need 30 places! But, one day at a time, as they say! I had had my eye on this spot before. It is near my storage unit by a park. I had read online that in some places, the cops don’t let you sleep near or in city parks but I had a good feel about this area and it’s residential so I figured I could always park on one of the nearby streets if the park thing didn’t feel right. When I drove up, I saw two other cars parked there. They were older cars….pretty sure they were car dwellers and my suspicions were confirmed when I saw the same cars there this morning. I parked a little away from them and went to sleep. City park on one side, the side of someone’s house, with a big tall fence around it, on the other. It was glorious sleeping!

In the early morning, I felt comfortable enough to “sleep in” until around 7.  I wasn’t sleeping from 6-7 though, just thinking.  I was thinking about how things would be entirely different if I didn’t have a vehicle (and what luxury, a van!) to live in.  I don’t know if I would survive long sleeping rough, gentle climate or not.  I am so grateful to have a van and my jobs.

I also watched a video yesterday of this guy who lives in his SUV to save money.  He seems to be doing just great.  It got me thinking, what better group of people to help homeless people than people like us.  We are closer to the dire circumstance of not having a car (and frankly, many of us could slip into that place very easily), we know where to find homeless people, we are more in tune to their needs and it seems to me, we could more easily instill trust.

So there may be a foundation of some sort in the making….and not one of those fake ones either.

Here’s the video I mentioned earlier.
