First Night Sleeping In My Van

I passed a fairly comfortable night in a location almost a stone’s throw away from my condo.  It would have been more comfortable if my van had been more organized.  I was still bringing things from the condo to my storage unit yesterday and once I finished that, I ran out of energy to get my van set up better.  Not to say it’s not at all organized, but there were some things piled on the back bench seat that I planned to sleep on and being tired and it being dark by the time I finished at the storage unit and had dinner, I just slept on the middle seat.

The middle seat is shorter.  It’s also more likely to be seen from the front of the van, if someone should look in (whereas, the back bench seat has the middle seat blocking it…when I’m laying down, I can’t be seen.  So my legs were a little uncomfortable and I wasn’t as invisible.

Still, not a bad night.  The street was quiet.  I got to my spot around 9:15 or so and only a couple of cars went by and nobody on foot, as far as I can tell.  I plan to always go “to bed” between 9 and 10 pm so I can be out of the area by 530-6 in the morning.  I want it to seem like I was never there so no one calls the police on me.  In this neighborhood, an old van like mine is considered an eyesore and people WILL call the cops if they get tired of seeing it.  It’s no great sacrifice getting up that early for me because I’m used to it.

Interestingly, I’m pretty sure there was a car sleeper parked just a few feet behind the place I chose.  I saw the car when I pulled up last night.  It was an older vehicle and I just had a hunch…maybe because it’s such a good little spot.  Then in the morning around 530…I was sort of in an out of sleep, his or her car starts all of a sudden and they drive out of there pretty fast. Maybe I’m just imagining things though!  If true, I hope they didn’t feel I had encroached on them by sleeping there (if he or she was awake when I showed up, they could probably tell I was doing so).  Oh well, it’s a public street.

Lots more to share but this is getting long and I don’t want to lose ya!  Have a nice day!
