It’s funny how we tend to have fear about things that never even happen.
I never wanted to strap a bike to the back of my van because I thought FOR SURE then, the cops would know I was a free-sleeper and pull me over, just for the heck of it OR worse, I would get that dreaded knock on my van window in the middle of the night and I would get a ticket for “camping”.
BUT, I’ve had a bike on the back of my van for over a week now and I haven’t had any problems yet. And the citizens of this fine city have not run me out of town with torches either. So much of what I have feared has been no big deal at all.
I remember when living in my van seemed like a really scary plan. At night, every car that came down the road while I was laying in the van trying to sleep, seemed like it MUST be a cop car or a nosy neighbor who was most certainly going to call the cops on me. Nope. Never happened.
We can get used to anything. I remember when going to the church for free coffee and food seemed awful. I was scared of the people there. Now I only get annoyed now and then. I told Miss Sourpuss, (that I talked about a here couple of weeks ago) not to talk to me anymore today. From now on, that is the treatment she gets from me. I have given her enough chances to speak civilly to me. Sometimes you have to say ENOUGH.
Other than that, I enjoy some good music, decent food and great coffee at the church. Sometime the preachers are interesting too. Some of them are older and they talk about what this county was like 40 plus years ago. One of them said growing up here was the closest thing to heaven here on earth…and he meant it.
He said, when he was a boy, he and his pals could run all over town safely from the age of 6! He and his gang made tree-houses, played ball (no league, just informally) sailed little homemade boats and more. Isn’t that neat?
Why are Americans ok with the constant downward trend in this country? I’m not. I don’t care what nationality(s) you are….your people lived for hundreds, maybe thousands of years in the same way, with the same customs etc. and it was fine. But now we accept modernism or “progress” as something we MUST have. WHY must we have it? Is it good for us? Are we making progress when young people can no longer have a carefree youth but must be constantly supervised lest some pervert molest them? Are we?
And sure, I like using modern things like computers but that doesn’t mean I have to accept “modern” things I don’t like. Sometimes, modern is a euphemism for degeneration or a decline in quality. We’ve got great machines (computers, phones, etc) keeping us in touch now but that doesn’t help much if soon, there won’t be anyone worth keeping in touch with.
Who is brainwashing Americans into degeneration? It’s an important question to ask. Degeneration is NOT something we should get used to.
