Fast Day

I don’t know where the day went today.  I dread nights right now because of the cold so the day just speeds by.  Tonight I’m going to stay up as late as I can so I can avoid some of the cold.  I’ll be tired tomorrow but I don’t care.  I’ll be here at the library until 9, then I’ll go to the gym.  I don’t usually work out when I go there but I think I will tonight, to kills some time.

My daughter suggested I sit on a recumbent bike and pedal slowly while reading a book.  Why not?  I might be able to do that for an hour if my eyes don’t get too tired.  Then I might go in the sauna.  I don’t think I should stay in there too long though because I’m already probably close to dehydrated right now.  I don’t get enough water.  But it sure will be warm!  Then maybe I’ll shower for an hour!  Hahaha!  Why not?  I should be able to kill 2-3 hours at the gym, I would think.

I can’t remember if I blogged about telling one of my daughters about me living in my van.  I have been sort of prepping her for a couple of months by mentioning that I had slept in my van “a couple of times” and joked that she and I could live in the van if we ever needed to. When I told her she seemed okay with it.  She is just concerned that she won’t have a place to stay when she is home from college.  That’s a valid concern, especially this summer when she plans to come back and take classes at the local junior college (the same one I might go to).  I may have to get a place by then for that reason.  I don’t want her to stay in the van with me or be forced to couch surf….which, in my opinion is mooching, if you do it too much.  It’s not fair to expect others to pay your way in life.

When it’s cold like it’s been lately, renting a room sounds really good.  The cold is a real buzz kill!  (haha just kidding about the buzz part).

If I get a real job so I can afford a room, I will have to give up my small business though and my other little job that I like.  And this blog will be over.  I really like blogging and van living gives me a lot to write about.  If I get a real job, I will probably get one and rent a room near my daughter’s university.  The down side of that though is that she still won’t have a place to stay in the summer.

I’m not going to make any rash decisions right now.  Hopefully this short (please please please) cold snap will end soon and I can deal with stuff again.  Cold is the most important problem.

About Maureen, Living in a Van

I'm a free-sleeper living in a van in the prettiest part of the world. I do this partly due to financial circumstances and partly because I love a good adventure.

It seems like you’ve resolved your parking difficulties. Is this true? Or maybe you’re more worried about the cold than the police, so you park whereever.

Hi! Haha well I still park in whole bunch of different spots and I keep track so I don’t wear out my welcome anywhere. You are correct though that cold worries are taking precedence over neighbor/police concerns!

You all probably think I’m a worry wart huh?

I AM thinking about making the place I parked last night a permanent spot though. It’s down the street from the gym and it’s near a park. I’ve always thought that parking near a park would attract police but so far I haven’t had any trouble.

I think one of the advantages of this cold weather is there are less people out and about late at night and early in the morning. I’m going to keep working on cheap solutions to my cold problem and enjoy the benefits.

Thank you for remembering and asking about this. I feel like I am making some nice friends through this blog! You guys are great!
