Decriminalizing Drugs

I thought this was an interesting article.

Almost 15 years ago Portugal decriminalized drug possession and use and encouraged people to connect to their community. The article doesn’t really go into how they helped the drug addicts connect to their community but Wikipedia says when people were caught with drugs (just enough for personal use, not for sale) they had to do community service rather than prison. Apparently this policy has resulted in drug addiction to be cut in half in Portugal.

This story rings true to me. Being of service to others (people or even animals) builds confidence in folks. Everyone needs to feel needed.

Also, crime goes down when drugs are cheaper to get.
