Dangerous Person

There is this homeless woman who growls at me and acts in a threatening manner toward me everytime she sees me.  And it’s all my fault.

One day, around six months ago I was sitting in a coffee shop and she came in.  I’d seen her around.  She is what you might call chronically homeless.  Unkempt…sleeps in the park during the day and on a sidewalk in the center of town at night.  So I’m just sitting there trying to have my morning cup of coffee and reading something on my tablet and she comes in, talking up a blue streak….to herself.  It’s pretty annoying.

Now I know you guys are thinking to yourself, aw, Maureen is kinda mean.  That poor woman is obviously mentally ill.  To that I say….she is probably mentally ill from too much partying….self inflicted illness and it’s hard for me to drum up much sympathy, especially when I have to listen to loud gibberish from this wretch, first thing in the morning…before I’ve had my first cup of coffee.  I mean, I get it.  You’re brain is fried, but do I have to listen to it?  So I got this stupid, stupid, stupid idea in my head to look at her, put my finger to my lips and say Shhhhhh.

Bad idea.

She went koo koo for cocoa puffs and let loose with a vile torrent (some of it unintelligible) of words directed at me.  I was fortunate that a man came in while this was going on…and he was a hero for me.  He distracted the woman…kind of broke her obsession with me…for the moment.

Still every time she saw me after that…maybe once a month…she would start up again.  Last night, I ended up at a bus stop near her sleep spot. (Not on purpose…just wasn’t thinking)  And she started up again.  Threw a bottle with water in at toward me (no cover).  Threw a used cigarette butt toward me…and a couple of other similar things….Her mouth was running, of course.  Just to give you an idea of what we are dealing with here, at one point she said she was Jesus’ wife and don’t tell her she isn’t.  🙁

Because I had my guy with me though…her nonsense was nipped in the bud.  He didn’t threaten her or anything.  He just has a commanding presence and I was so glad he was there.  It would have been much scarier alone.

The end.

About Maureen, Living in a Van

I'm a free-sleeper living in a van in the prettiest part of the world. I do this partly due to financial circumstances and partly because I love a good adventure.

    No, this is good news!

With crazy people, you must accept their frame. Ask her how Jesus is doing today. How did they meet?

Just make sure she doesn’t have any junk on her to throw at you first. Approach her from the side or the rear, like you would with a horse. Crazy people are a little more like animals than others. She’ll be your best friend in no time at all.
