Cops and Authority-Response to Geezer

Geezer said in a comment that the cops had every authority to simply tow my van, without leaving a notice.

With all due respect Geezer, that’s not true.  They did not catch me doing anything.  My van is up to date on registration.

Beyond that, I do not recognize any cop’s “authority” to remove my private property because I am sleeping in it. (if he caught me)  There are ordinances that prohibit sleeping in your vehicle but I don’t see cops arresting babies!

J, who I have mentioned before fought a “camping” ticket (that’s what they give you) and won.  It took him a year to win that case.  But he won.  Because sleeping your vehicle is not a crime.  There is no victim.

About Maureen, Living in a Van

I'm a free-sleeper living in a van in the prettiest part of the world. I do this partly due to financial circumstances and partly because I love a good adventure.

The cops do have a lot of authority. The USG gives it to them. They can do almost anything.

True authority comes from God, not the latest regime and not from the gun. The American legal system was designed to protect the elite and their pets.

Respectfully , I must disagree , there are so many laws out there, as well as city ordinances , they have any number ways to declare a situation illegal , not always obvious.
Btw , if they HAD caught you in the van , they could not tow it until you vacated it !

$160 to fix van $100 for month of insurance $100 for fuel , storage fees $70 odds & ends for comfort in van , like cup of coffee at diner . I would rather rent small room and have jar of instant coffee , get bus pass on poverty discount , It is too expensive for me to live in my van. Thank you for doing it . I live thru your stories
