Colony

I’ve found a free-sleeper colony of sorts.  I met this guy who sleeps in his van by choice a few weeks ago.  He’s very nice and I trusted him almost instantly.  He told me he sleeps in his van and I told him I did to.  He told me about the place he sleeps…gave me the address and everything.  I wasn’t ready to go there at that point (3-4 weeks ago, I think) but a week ago I spoke to him again and I guess, because of the stalker guy, I was ready to check it out.

I don’t want to say too much about it…I’m afraid to give too much info on the net but there are probably 8 free-sleepers in the area…some in vehicles…some elsewhere.  It’s a semi-safe situation and knowing that guy is nearby feels pretty safe.  One of the ladies sleeps with the windows to her car open…that’s how safe she feels.  I’ve only slept there one nite.  As most of you know, I prefer to move around.  I like the idea though of being around some nice free-sleepers.  There is also a private spot with a water spigot to brush your teeth or go number 1, in an emergency. I try not to use the restroom at night but it’s good to be near one (or something resembling one) just in case.

Not much else to say about this…just another day in the life of an adventurous free-sleeper.  Thanks for reading.

About Maureen, Living in a Van

I'm a free-sleeper living in a van in the prettiest part of the world. I do this partly due to financial circumstances and partly because I love a good adventure.

Interesting! I can’t help but be a little bit suspicious. Yes, the more people the safer. But also, the more people sleeping, the more attention you draw – and an experienced free sleeper would know this.

I studied the hobo or “free transportation” subculture, where hobos would use trains to travel acrosss the US. Sometimes, a hobo might screw over a fellow hobo because he was too trusting. What’s the guy gonna do – go to the cops?
