Cleaning Up!

Nothing much going on today.  My housesitting gig is up tomorrow so I’m cleaning up the place today.  I hope my clients are very happy to see a clean house when they come back!

I don’t know the folks I’m working for…but I feel I know them better after staying in their house for a couple of weeks.  A person’s home says a lot about them.

Not sure what my “home” says about me.  To someone who “gets it” I think it says, “this lady is unconventional and likes an adventure” but to someone it doesn’t, it probably says, “this person has a substance abuse problem or maybe she’s just lazy”.  Fortunately, my survival doesn’t depend on the approval of others.

I’m looking forward to the New Year.  I haven’t made any resolutions that I didn’t have already.  I have some things that I would like to do next year like get in better shape and learn Spanish but I really can’t say that I’m resolved (resolute, firmly determined) to do them.  The things I am resolved to do in this coming year, I’m already doing, like living without renting or owning a stick built dwelling and doing my political activism.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, I can’t make myself be determined to do something unless it’s really important to me so why put myself through the guilt of making goals for myself that I’m not going to reach because I don’t care enough about them?  (Run-on sentence?)

Instead of making resolutions, I’m going to go backwards and think about what I have done  in 2011, that I feel good about.  I’m going to give myself a big pat on the back and tell myself “Good job!”  I hope you will do the same.

About Maureen, Living in a Van

I'm a free-sleeper living in a van in the prettiest part of the world. I do this partly due to financial circumstances and partly because I love a good adventure.

How did you get that job? Where you recommended? I imagine that they must have met you before they trusted you with their house.

I don’t make resolutions either. It seems like a thing one ought to do all year round, not just one day.

I printed up a flyer for part of my business (that I don’t talk about here…nothing shady or anything) on my computer and posted it around my neighborhood. So I had done a smaller job for them first before they asked me to housesit. They REALLY don’t know me though. I lived in the neighborhood when I started working for them and I had other clients (from the biz I don’t talk about) here so I guess they figured I was a stable neighborhood fixture or something. If they only knew!
