Camping In My Condo

So this being a long holiday weekend, my landlord gave me almost an entire extra week to move out of my condo.  What a blessing.  As I mentioned yesterday, I have no furniture and have been sleeping on a yoga mat.  It’s pretty good except that I’m a confirmed side sleeper and my hip bone always hurts in the morning!  But other than that, this is really great because I am having the opportunity to ease out condo life and into the van.

I must confess, I’ve mostly been laying about, surfing the net, talking with friends on the phone etc.  (In between working a bit).  I need to make a run to the storage unit today before it gets too hot and while the office is open.  After the office is closed you can’t use the carts anymore.  Once I go to the storage today, I will be pretty much “done” here in the condo other than cleaning.  I’m not sure if I’m going to do a big cleaning or not.  I’ve been alone a LOT lately and I’m kind of feeling like I need to spend time with a friend or something, so I don’t go out of my mind with loneliness.  The landlord can take the cost of cleaning out of my deposit.  It’s worth it to me, I think.

So tonight all I’ll have left in the house is the stuff that’s going to be with me in my new home, my van.  I’m nervous that it won’t fit the way I want it to.  I don’t want the van to look lived in.  There are people in my life that will probably peep in there from time to time and I don’t want them to suspect I’m living there.  If worse comes to worse, I have a white lie prepared.  I am going to say that the (ficitional) room I rent doesn’t have a lot of closet space so I’m storing some things in the van.  Plausible?  I hope so.

I have a lot of different sized boxes and containers from my household, empty and ready to filled so that I can slide items into odd spots in my van.  I probably need to buy some different sized bungee cords and nets(?) of some kind so stuff doesn’t slide all over the place when I’m driving.  That would drive me crazy.  I want to just feel like a “normal” person driving around town, not a ragamuffin!  🙂

If you’re still reading, thank you.  Will you leave me a comment?

About Maureen, Living in a Van

I'm a free-sleeper living in a van in the prettiest part of the world. I do this partly due to financial circumstances and partly because I love a good adventure.

Get a ridge-rest and a thermarest…… Go to a National Camp ground for a weekend, and see what other people have.

This ” loneliness” is the tuff one to beat. But the van is no different than living alone in any apt, if you think about it.

Just found out I can’t edit.

I agree about the loneliness Mac. I’ve been lonely for quite some time now. I’m going to have to make an extra effort to see people now and make new friends.

Another important thing is money…of course. I’ve let my business flounder lately because of this transition. Besides living expenses I need money to do the things I want to do. I want to take a college class and maybe a fun class like ballroom dancing.

LOL I think I just learned a name…….. Sure take classes as you can, be they arts or what ever, stay fit. But take a class on camping will ya! You are camping, and to get any good, which saves time, and gets you to be creative, a class can’t hurt. Or go to a National Camp ground, where you will have no choice but to meet and greet new folks.

This is your blog, so I assume you have my e-mail. Write any time you wish.

I’m considering moving into my van. Are you still doing it and how is it working out? Also, where do you park?y

    • Maureen says:

Yes I’m still free-sleeping in my van. It’s working out good as I save a lot of money. I park on residential streets and keep my head down. If you want to learn more, be sure to read my blog. 🙂

Just found this blog, I love reading about how people simplify their lives. I have a small travel trailer and know how living in a small place is so satisfying. I do also have a small house that I will be minizing as I go back home for the rest of the summer. I look forward to reading your history to where you are now! Thanks for writing your blog! Cheers, Annie
