Commenter Michelle brought up biking as a way to save gas.  I like the idea very much but I don’t want to store a bike inside my van (no room!)  Is there a way to attach it to my van where no one could steal it…where no one would even bother attempting to steal it?  Or should I hide it somewhere else?

It’s really hilly in my city so it will be hard at first biking everywhere, but it will be so good for me.  I want to make it work.

About Maureen, Living in a Van

I'm a free-sleeper living in a van in the prettiest part of the world. I do this partly due to financial circumstances and partly because I love a good adventure.

Put it on the roof. That’ll make it hard to steal. Put some NRA and Minuteman stickers on the van too, that’ll keep the gremlins away.

Not sure I could lift a bike up there…will think about this.

I wouldn’t attach a bike to the outside of a van, it’s too much of a target, especially to opportunistic thieves who may happen to spot your van at night… If you do leave it outside make sure it’s WELL locked up! You could get a folding bike to store inside the van maybe?

Thanks for commenting. Your blog looks interesting. I agree that strapping a bike to my van might make it a target…or at the very least, just more noticeable when I really just want to blend in. I hadn’t thought about finding a safe-ish place to park it….must think on this some more.

A fordable bike? Not the expensive ones but from Walmart perhaps. Put it near the front seat. You wouldnt have to leave it in all the time If you plan to stay a day or two in town you can lock it up somewhere.

Thats a good idea. BTW most thieves don;t waste their breath on really cheap bikes, 🙂
