Are Homeless People Invisible?

C, A friend of mine who I’ve mentioned before on this blog, and who knows I am a free-sleeper, sent me this video.  In it, people disguise themselves as homeless and then sit along the route of a loved one to see if the loved one recognized them.  The results may surprise you.  They don’t surprise me though.  Please watch, then read my comments below.

The Video

My thoughts are, first of all, not all homeless people look like the people in the video.  I’m not saying I look completely normal, I probably look like I have a low income, but I don’t look like these folks with a bunch of stuff around me…sleeping on the street, etc.

My second thought is, why are they shaming these people…and in turn, shaming us?  Almost every video or film in the world is trying to get a message across.  My guess is that this video is meant to make people feel guilty so they will give more money to homeless people.  And trust me, there is BIG MONEY in “doing charitable work”.  Why else are there so many charities?

My third and last thought I will share is that most of us WANT to be invisible.  I know I do.  Please, don’t notice me!

Thanks for reading.

I’m not surprised either. Being poor is considered the ultimate failure in America. Who wants to imagine themselves in the same situation? But many will end up there today.
