Animals and Me

I woke up yesterday and lay thinking for a little while, like I often do. I was looking out my big van windows when I saw the leaves of a nearby tree shaking, a lot! I was hoping to see a raccoon or maybe a hedgehog but all I saw was a squirrel. He was a little unusual though as he had the most ginormous tail I have ever seen on a squirrel. He started circling down the tree when all of a sudden he stopped and stared straight at me. I don’t think he expected to see any humans peering at them at 6 am. I stayed very still so I wouldn’t scare him off and he looked for a moment as though he wasn’t sure what to do. Maybe he couldn’t tell for sure if I was actually a living being or not. He finally took off.

When I was a little girl, I always dreamed that some day I would be so at one with nature that little birds would land on my finger and animals would come close to me, unafraid. Well you may not believe me but lately I have been able to get very close to birds and small animals even when I have been walking dogs. Could living in my van be making me different in some way? Milder or kinder? Who knows?

I’m going to have to try this!

About Maureen, Living in a Van

I'm a free-sleeper living in a van in the prettiest part of the world. I do this partly due to financial circumstances and partly because I love a good adventure.

Probably it makes you more aware of your environment. Animals are very aware. They can sense intentions in people.
